Waterberg

The Waterberg is a mountainous massif of approximately 14,500 square kilometers in north Limpopo Province, South Africa. The average height of the mountain range is 600 meters with a few peaks rising up to 2,000 meters above sea level. The 150km-long range, which stretches northeast from Thabazimbi past Vaalwater, is protected by the 15,000-sq-km Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, one of Africa’s two savannah biospheres. Rising to 2100m, it has a mild climate and some wild terrain for spotting the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino), with rivers and distinctive mountains scything through bushveld and sourveld (a type of grassland). Marakele National Park is the undoubted highlight.

Game Drives

Game drives in 4x4 vehicles are the best way to cover as much territory as possible and have the best chance possible of seeing the great diversity of The Waterberge. The Big Five is often seen on a safari. The experienced guides ensure that game drive activities are filled with interesting facts and information about the area and the wildlife that is seen. The afternoon drives in often stretch into evening when the nocturnal creatures of Africa can be seen going about their business.
